Chief Warrant Officer Five Steven J. Murphy retired from active duty on February 1, 1998, culminating a 27-year military career. In his final assignment, Chief Warrant Officer Five Murphy served as the Corps Food Service Advisor, III Corps and Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas. Chief Warrant Officer Five Murphy enlisted in the US Air Force in May 1970. After 2 years of distinguished service, received an Army Warrant Officer appointment as an Open Mess Custodian within the US Army Quartermaster Corps. He holds a Master of Business Administration Degree, and a Bachelor of Science Degree. Chief Warrant Officer Five Murphy served in a variety of challenging assignments including: Food Service Advisor, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Casey Korea, Officer in Charge of the Secretary of Defense Mess-Pentagon, Food Service Advisor, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, Food Service Advisor 97th Army Reserve Command-Fort Meade, Maryland, Food Service Advisor, 11th Special Forces Group, Custodian-Fort Monroe, Virginia, and Officers Club Open Mess Custodian-Fort Myers, Virginia. While serving as 2nd Infantry Division Food Advisor, Chief Warrant Officer Five Murphy was lauded by the Division Commander for superb duty performance in ensuring high quality meals were provided to over seventeen thousand Soldiers at forty-one field feeding sites. Chief Warrant Officer Five Murphy is a recipient of the Distinguished Member of the Corps. Chief Warrant Officer Five Murphy awards and decorations include: Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Armed Service Reserve Medal, Army Service Medal, Overseas Service Medal, and Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge
